I had the shock of my life when I got a text last week telling me I was in the Daily Mail’s Femail Magazine – my wonderful dad nearly choked on his Shreddies when he opened the paper to see yours truly with a cheesy grin and Sarah Norah on my lap!
I want to thank Boudicca Leonard Fox for writing such a lovely article about our project – the response we’ve had has been phenomenal. The furniture and equipment on our Baby Shower, which is needed to set up our Home, began flying off the virtual shelves and my inbox was full from people sending us beautiful messages of support and wanting to come out here and volunteer.
We wouldn’t be here without all of you and we wanted to thank you personally for every item you have bought, so we have created a glorious page on our website listing every item of furniture and the Supporter who has bought it. It doesn’t mean of course that the Baby Shower is closed for business, though! There is always a demand for items, so please do spread the word: www.childsifoundation/babyshower
As well as that bit of excitement, we’ve had a very busy week – including new staff arriving, purchasing a vehicle, buying furniture – but instead of reading about it, you can watch the latest action from the house here (now I really am sounding like a Big Brother Producer again…) thanks to Ian Warren, our TV volunteer. For the record, I know I said ‘Shelf Shocked’. What can I say, I was having the week of all weeks…
Next week we’ll be getting our Home ready for accepting our first babies, so we’ll be very busy painting and decorating, shopping and planning our opening. So many people out here have given us their time, love and money, we thought it would be nice to put on a little opening ceremony to say thanks. And as Perle in the UK is organising a party to celebrate our opening in London, it’ll be celebrations all round!
We also have two new additions to the team out here: I’m delighted to welcome Dorthe Bucknell, our lovely VSO volunteer, who will be staying with us for the next six months. Dorthe will be setting up our prevention programme and establishing our second home to care for mothers and babies in the next couple of months.
Also, Sharon Henley has just arrived to take the reigns from our current CFO, Christine Hutton who was supposed to have left us by now but following a bone-crunching fall from her high sandals in the rain, is now staying a bit longer. I do feel for poor Christine’s ankle but what a bonus for the charity that we now have two fabulous CFO’s at this extremely busy time. I didn’t plan the fall – honest.
Many thanks for your continued support at this crucial and hugely exciting time for the Child’s i Foundation.
