This weeks supporter of the week is on a unstoppable mission for Child’s i, read on to find out more:
How did you get involved with Child’s i Foundation?
I worked with Lucy when she was still working as a Producer in Television. She told me at the time about her work in Africa and immediately I was interested. Since then I followed Lucy’s progress setting up the charity and the website and eventually attended one of her many meet ups to tell everyone what was happening and what it was all about. That was all it took, after hearing Lucy speak, I was hooked.
How have you been showing your support?
It started with a Half Marathon, I had only recently completed the London Marathon and so felt uneasy about asking all my friends and family to sponsor me again. So I set about asking those close to me, (or those who didn’t sponsor me first time round) for £5 – no more, no less. Everyone can afford £5 and before you knew it I had £100. Lucy and CiF were so grateful for my efforts that it spurned me on to do more. I am now organising the “Child’s i Klimb” a supporter led trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Talk about up’ing the scale!
How do you inspire others to get involved?
Working a lot it can be hard to find the time to always get involved yourself – but a great way you can is to get others involved! I do this by pairing friends up with projects I know will interest them and then applying a secret Chinese burn technique. So far I’ve persuaded an ex-girlfriend (worked at NHS & thirst for adrenaline) to abseil down a hospital, my best friend (fellow TV producer and veteran African traveller) is currently in Kampala filming videos for CiF, my little sister (fashion journalist) has just completed the press release for Child’s i Klimb and I’m in the process of getting my Mum to organise an Undress for Uganda event (she just doesn’t know it yet).
