Last week, I sent out a shout to find a Chief Financial Officer who could come out to Uganda with us in less than 3 weeks. To be honest, I thought it would be a Mission Impossible and was prepared to admit defeat and start swotting up on money matters myself – but I hadn’t reckoned on the sheer will of our brilliant community! We were overwhelmed by support and I’m over the moon to announce that we’ve found the perfect person.

I am honoured to welcome Christine Hutton to our team. Christine has actually been volunteering as our CFO for almost six months: she was introduced to us by recruitment consultant Mary Driscoll from Maven Partners, and when I met Christine back then for coffee, she promised to help us with our business plan and finances for two weeks.

Fast forward five months and countless finance plan revisions, policies, high-value donor presentations, board meetings and grant applications (not to mention scary lectures telling me I needed to raise £1000 every day), Christine has agreed to come out to Uganda to set up the project for the first few months.

The good news is we have also found some brilliant candidates who could potentially come out and take on the position after Christine leaves.

And just to thank you again – as a Community, we’ve raised a whopping £102,000 (thanks to everyone who has bought a brick – we’ve raised £6999 on our wall so far!). Ideally we want to raise a further £20,000 before we head out and set up the project in December, so I’ll keep you posted!
